Marriage License Information

LICENSE MAY ONLY BE USED WITHIN THE STATE OF LOUISIANA

OFFICE HOURS: Monday – Friday, 8:30 to 4:30. We suggest you come in no later than 4:00 PM to allow time for the application process.

PRINTABLE MARRIAGE LICENSE APPLICATION: Please complete and print this form for expedited service. This application must be signed in the Clerk of Court’s office or in the presence of a Notary Public.

LICENSE FEE: $27.50 payable by CASH or CREDIT CARD.   Fees are non-refundable.   You are encouraged to purchase one or more certified copies of your Marriage Certificate when you apply for your license and you will automatically receive your copy by mail when your license has been filed by your officiant.

CERTIFIED COPIES OF YOUR MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE:  The cost for certified copies of a Marriage Certificate is $5.00 each + a $.50 mailing charge per transaction.

IDENTIFICATION: A certified copy of your birth certificate is required for all applicants. If you were born in Louisiana, you may apply for a birth certificate in our office. A valid, unexpired driver’s license, government-issued ID, or an unexpired passport is also required.

AGE REQUIREMENT: When both parties are 18 year of age or older, they may freely apply for a marriage license. Minors aged 16-17, when the age difference is less than 3 years between the parties seeking the marriage, must provide an order of approval from the District Judge and the written, notarized consent of both parents or the person having sole custody of the child. A certified custody order must be provided when applicable. Marriage is prohibited for minors below the age of 16 or minors aged 16-17 when there is an age difference of 3 years or greater between the parties seeking the marriage license.

OTHER INFORMATION NEEDED: Social security numbers, parents’ names (including mothers’ maiden names) and state where parents were born, highest grade completed in school and number of this marriage. If not a first marriage, month and year of divorce or death of prior spouse.

WAITING PERIOD: Effective August 1, 2018, there is a 24 hour waiting period before your license can be used. 

EXPIRATION OF LICENSE: A marriage license is valid for 30 days after issuance. Expiration date and time is noted on your license.

WHO MAY PERFORM CEREMONY: Ministers or Justice of the Peace.
